Meet Brooks / Our Values / FAQ

Behind the Business
Brooks Hosfeld (they/he) is the founder and Lead Consultant for Brooks & Suns Consulting, LLC. They have been working in community-building and nonprofits for more than a decade, from on-the-ground grassroots organizing to executive leadership.
They have raised more than $3 million firsthand for grassroots organizations by streamlining development strategies from scrappy to sustainable, and helped scrappy organizations sustainably raise millions too.
As Brooks & Suns' Lead Consultant, Brooks partners with values-driven nonprofits, businesses, and community groups seeking to transform their operating frameworks and development practices to thrive at their highest potential.
In their personal time, Brooks is a full-time dog dad to a goofy lab mix and can most often be found sipping coffee at home with their partner or soaking up the sun with friends in a nearby park.
Our Values
Joy, justice, and ease are at the core of our work. We believe ease is an indicator of alignment, not because the work isn't hard (it is!), but because removing barriers creates a flow that leads to the success you've been hoping for. We are inspired by grassroots justice movements that imagine abundance as something to be shared, and we work to apply this creativity and structure to every scale. When systems, values, and practices align, everything becomes easier. There is even more space for you tap into the joy that drew you to your mission in the first place.
We equip you to grow with more abundance and ease.
We center people first, knowing that well-organized systems are only useful if they can actually be maintained even during the busiest times of year. We meet your organization where you actually are, and give your whole team approachable steps to get you where you want to be.
We prioritize collaboration, transparency, and consent. We move with the idea that you are the expert of your own work, and our partnership is just that - a partnership. By working together step-by-step, you will know exactly what to expect and have the power to redirect or rearrange at any point. Your terms, your results.
FAQ
Business and nonprofit leaders are so often expected to do it all, and we don't think you should have to. Consulting is a place for you to get the support you need and deserve.
At Brooks & Suns Consulting, we don't think you know it all (that's a good thing!) and we trust that you know your organization best. We consider our job as consultants to be mirrors, so that you can see clearly what you need through the lens a caring but external party. By bringing in someone who isn't part of the day-to-day (but has lived it in many organizations themselves), a consultant helps you and your team break out of familiar patterns then establish personalized, alternative practices and systems that address previous problem areas and are much more rewarding for you, your team, and your balance sheets.
Consulting means that you don't have to figure it out alone. Consulting means you can trust that you'll get the end result you hoped for - or beyond that. Consulting means that you'll have the tools you need to grow on your terms, well beyond the length of a contract.
As your consultant, Brooks & Suns will work with you determine focus areas and create structural solutions that your team can implement immediately and sustain in the long run.

Following a consultation call
If you decide to move forward, you will reach out to Brooks again (email recommended) to confirm what services you would like to commit to. In return, we will provide a quote for service costs and a draft contract for your approval. Details can be confirmed over email or in an additional video call, the decisions of which will be reflected in a final contract.
Once a partnership has started
After all the t's are crossed and i's are dotted, you can look forward to all of the benefits promised being enacted by a friendly, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic consultant. The partnership will follow what you want and need from a consultant - we can let you lead the way and we can take the reigns when need be. We will be reliable, communicative, and timely in our deliverables and exchanges. We will by your side through the challenging questions, the unknowns, and the joy of watching the fruits of your labor unfold. In a partnership with Brooks & Suns, you will have a cheerleader and guide for anywhere you're going.
Brooks & Suns Consulting is a hybrid operation based in Denver, Colorado, on the historic lands of the Ute, Sioux, and Arapahoe tribes. In our practice of meeting you where you are, the majority of planning sessions take place through video calls. Services can be provided virtually or in-person, and are not limited to Colorado. Travel costs would be incorporated into initial contract or otherwise negotiated.
Brooks & Suns Consulting is committed to supporting values-driven groups, organizations, and businesses as much as we can, where we can. As part of our values, we do not consider money to be the only viable resource available to community organization, and so we still invite you to reach out for a free consultation to discuss your constraints and alternative ways we can collaborate.
That being said, we cannot offer standard services for less than what they are quoted. Our services will help you reframe, maximize, and ground into your practices so that you can move with financial and operating abundance on the other side. This collaboration requires notable investment from both parties, and the rates provided are as fair, equitable, and affordable as possible. Your investment in a Brooks & Suns service goes directly towards the short- and long-term benefits of your organization, and also to the time, expertise, business expenses, and well-being of a transgender professional.
Book a consultation through our contact form or Calendly to discuss potential options for limited-budget, trade, or pro-bono requests.
If these expenses are not currently possible for you but you still want to work together, we encourage you to consider applying for grants that are focused on building internal operating capacity for small businesses and nonprofits.
Please note: We will always do our best to accommodate institutional restraints, but our efforts to build accessible options does not guarantee that Brooks & Suns will be able to provide a contract or desired service at the time that it is requested, if at all.
Brooks & Suns is driven by sunlight and wants you to shine just as bright! We are not too proud to admit when we're biased, though, so we will let our our previous clients and collaborators speak on our behalf. See testimonials below as examples of how Brooks & Suns Consulting has been great for them, and why working together could be the right fit for you!

Their expertise in consulting was evident and their guidance throughout our project helped me gain clarity and confidence to continue moving forward. I appreciated their ability to explain complex ideas in a way that was easy to understand and directly apply to my goals. They are consistently reliable, responsive to my needs, and committed to ensuring that I received value from our time working together. I cannot recommend them enough to anyone seeking knowledgeable, solution-oriented consulting support. Their services truly exceeded my expectations and provided powerful results.

I first worked with Brooks while we were both supporting the behind-the-scenes operations of a local Indigenous nonprofit. From the start, their collaborative approach and strategic expertise was immensely helpful to achieve our shared goals. In the months since, I have worked independently with Brooks & Suns Consulting while I have prepared to transition my own work from a standard contractor to launching a small business. The support and guidance I have received has been deeply impactful, and with their help I have set up a strong, diversified revenue model and a newfound confidence as I move into a new stage. Whether your organization is looking to grow or just enhance your existing systems, Brooks & Suns can help you figure out - and create - what you need.

I've had the joy of working with Brooks in various capacities over the last three and a half years [beginning prior to Brooks & Suns]. They have always brought an incredible sense of justness, equity, and integrity to every project, from writing grants, implementing programs, and even making customers feel loved and welcome at farmers markets! I've watched Brooks stay committed to their values and their organizations throughout staffing and programmatic shifts as well as coming up with inventive solutions and ideas in an ever-changing funding world. Brooks is an amazing person and any individual or organization would be lucky to have their insight and expertise.
